Issues

news feed not working - shows all feed items at once when clicking on specific feed ie KNN shows also Nation media and twitter'

  • site is loading funny on reports page.
  • sms reply and subscription
    • controlled alerts by admin.
    • sms subscription to keywords/categories. or manually generated synopsis
  • Instead of whole article on Kibera Journal feed, it's only partial then ... (needs to show full report)
  • Links don't show up anywhere in report, even when entered
  • Map when creating report is not always appearing on Kibera (then after you hit Save it appears)
  • Can video link appear automatically when feeding in from YouTube? (in the bar for video)
  • quotation marks and apostrophes turn to gibberish text in feeds turned to reports.
  • Can we include mainstream news on kibera (anything from KTN Nation etc) as a feed somewhere too? Already posting some of their videos
  • On report submission form the map sometimes is not even Kibera, general map shows instead
  • initial map view shows only some reports. clicking category to reload reports shows them all.
  • News feeds are not updating in administrative side of platform 07.07.2010
  • Reports page http://voiceofkibera.org/reports- timeline is crowded and not working properly
  • voice integration ala http://blog.ushahidi.com/index.php/2010/07/16/call-to-report-feature-via-cloudvox/
  • News Feeds only storing 100 articles?
  • about pages have weird characters inserted
  • Alerts (see description below)
  • iphone version shows google map
  • wap version ... report submit complains "Selected page too large to load. Please choose another link"
  • categories with subcategories are greyed out in admin/report/edit
  • /admin/scheduler unaccessible due to htaccess

Fixed

  • map annotations only show "# reports" instead of list of titles.
  • upgrade instance to latest codebase'
    • mobile version plugin
  • Is Google Analytics set up?
  • The map on the individual reports page is way too zoomed out, not even showing Nairobi.
  • As of June 14, SMS coming into the site have %20 in place of spaces
  • the dots are again not appearing on my map kibera.ush with the www (in case you tried to fix already?) - also even w/o www i had to reload a few times
  • videos are not showing on the homepage. The last two reports with videos (Kibera Mpira Mtaani and one I just created about the TS film screening) have youtube videos so I put the link in the videos link box and they're not showing up. --This issue seems to be resolved.
  • When looking at report page map is too zoomed out and clusters too many related incidents around chosen one
  • The time associated with the reports is not in the right time zone so when people send in reports they are coming in with the wrong time. It appears to be on Central Time in the U.S. not East Africa Time.

Older Technical Issues

These may be solved

  • source of each report (ie, news media org)
  • type of report (video, audio, written)
  • timeline doesn't look like anything?

Design

  • Add timeline back onto map on front page.

*Add short code number (3002) on the home page** priority

  • Re-brand the banner to reflect the citizen reporting nature of the site? Including change Tag Line

- Reports should not be called “incident report”
- Front page should feature Flickr Kibera-tagged photos instead.
- Bottom of front page should stream mainstream news from google blogs and news.

Wish List

-Search function for messages (not just reports)
-Export function for messages (rather than just reports)
-Tag trusted sources phone number with a name (so we can easily see who is reporting w/out having to memorize lists of numbers)
- Share function (with different Ushahidi instances) needs to be able to select category
-Sort and view messages by given SMS reporter
-Reports tied back to original SMS report so that you can view report or original message. Right now, once you’ve created a report you can no longer view the original message tied to that report (except for in the list under the “messages” tab) Want to be able to see original message in “admin” view when editing the report.

Alerts

Voice of Kibera requires three types of alerts.

1. SMS reporter and Kibera News Network contributors should be able to sign up for alerts for all categories. This could be done online, but also with the option to subscribe via SMS by texting keyword (alerts all categories) or a phrase to the 3002 shortcode.
2. The general public should be able to sign up for alerts via SMS based on specific categories. Alerts would be sent out to an individual phone number (or numbers) once a message has been approved in the category to which that indivdual subscribed. For example, someone interested in sporting events could text in: “Kibera alerts sports” and then receive an SMS every time a report is approved and tagged with the category “sports”. The SMS message should contain the text from that report on Voice of Kibera.
3. An “alerts digest” sent out via SMS. This should be controlled by the Editorial Board and/or site administrators. People who have signed up to receive the digest would receive one SMS alert at the end of the day (time to be determined and controlled by the administrator) with a summary of the news from the day (depending on the volume of news received, this may be one or two messages long).
